Chicago cultural historian Timuel Black (1918-2021) speaks about the importance of education
I was in tears...happy tears...that we, as Afro-Americans and Native Americans had such a Beautiful and Talented person in our history and heritage!
Better version than Diana Ross - record this
I knew Mrs Sanford at age 19-20. She would come to get her hair done at the salon I worked at Rueben’s . A very upscale salon. Being the “shampoo” person we were to be polite and not engage in convo too much but I knew she was someone of importance and “special” bc She Always carried herself with grace and divinity .& was always kind . And even though we couldn’t ask too many question to the client she would always want to know about me. Didn’t realize at the time how important that was, but as I sit here now at 54 yrs I get it !! Thank you Mrs Sanford May GOD continue to bless you and your family.
Teena Marie nailed Smokeys song. RIP Teena. Smokey has always been one of my favorite singers. Such a beautiful voice. ❤
OMG! This was so delightful. Denyce Graves continues to exhibit her authenticity, as well as her melliferous orotund voice! It is abundantly clear that both Angela Bassett and Graves are cut from the same tapestry. The two get along so well. It was pure enjoyment to watch them in this discussion. I feel so fortunate to have done so.
ya know, i have watched 1,000's of videos here on youtube and the longer ones i have a tendency to skip certain areas but this is the first video i've watched in years that i watched the entirety of the video. Diahann Carroll is an inspiration for us all and throughout her life she remained intelligent, thoughtful, beautiful but more importantly she retained her sense of self, her sense of class! she never changed the core of who she is.
RIP we all love you,big guy.
RIP to both women.
🎉🎉🎉 I NEVER TIRE OF LISTENING TO, READING ABOUT, AND HEARING THE TOUCHING LYRICS, MUSIC AND LOVE STORIES OF THIS REMARKABLE COUPLE. NICK AND VAL ASHFORD WILL NEVER BE MATCHED AS MUSICAL ICONS OF ❤❤❤ ANY. ❤❤❤ GENERATION. 😊🎉😂❤ SOMETHING REAL 😊😊😊😊😊
RIP, Sir. God bless your family. You and your wife wrote great music that will never be forgotten 🙏🏽
Whitelisted, NOT Blacklisted ... I hear ya *Mrs. Eartha Mae Kitt* --- because *MLK Jr.* ...had always said in his speeches that THEY made *BLACK* to be ugly while *WHITE* were to be pure!! Rest easy OUTSTANDING, SEXY *Catwoman* ... 🥰😎😇
I’ll never hear the bells and Baby I’m for real STILL hits hard.😢Their harmonies were 🔥🔥and Always on point.🤴🏽🤴🏽🤴🏽🤴🏽So happy to know Mr. Dixon is alive and well to tell the story🥰God Bless him and for the other members and Mr. Marvin Gaye, RIP. You were all such beautiful treasures.🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
Both Women had great Posture👠💄💅🫦🌹❤️🙏
I Like Diahann Carroll's Laugh❤😊
Thank You so much!! Because of your love for God, and the church, you have inspired so many people both here and abroad. You and your husband Dr. Floyd H. Flake are amazing trendsetters and visionaries. May God bless you and your family always and forever.💞💞💞🙏🙏🙏🙏
Musiq Soulchild did a great job!
I love myself some Smokey Robinson
Smokey looking at Howard like he wanna say…stop, just stop!
It’s the thought that counts.
Eartha Kitt at 81 years old can drop it like it’s hot, b4; MADEA. Ijs 😂🤣😅 I love her! Great charm and well defined in her own way! Yeah
My thoughts on this magnificient couple will always be that they were afraid to admit even to themselves that love came quickly to them. The reluctance to accept this was most likely the subconcious fear of ruining their business relationship if the love faded. As one listens to the lyrics and beautiful chords that they so effortlessly weave together one can almost feel the emotions flowing into their very beings. The lyrics come from the soul and each line is an unspoken message between them. ❤❤ REST IN PEACE NICK AND NEVER STOP WHISPERING WORDS OF WISDOM IN YOUR TRUE LOVE'S EAR. ❤❤ PRAYERS AND LOVE TO YOU VALERIE AND YOUR GIRLS. ❤❤
Of course Eartha is right about the racism here during Apartheid in the Old South in 1950. She is one of our amazing public-adored stars--far more interesting than almost all of them. Her stories are endlessly fascinating.
Eartha is right about Europe with its intelligent people; we have so few of these in America--and WHAT they read is hardly worth knowing about. I love Europe, too--all of the countries over there. Eartha is a real darling, who's honest.
Thank you! 🙏🏽 It feels so nice to hear my name, Dionne. This lady is a soft strong spirit! It’s a blessing to know that people are friends, or siblings in Christ! ❤ I was anointed to have a soft spirit, but standing is required in putting on the whole arm-our! I love you. Agape! ⌚️4️⃣🕊️. Getting armoured up right! 🙏🏽. God loves us all so much, yet he found a way to make life work for each of us! Waiting for answered prayer must be coming in the Dionne, not the Long, because it’s the longest! So long, but God is the love in us! In the world. 🌎 Period. God is with you! 💕I remember the very first time I saw Dionne! She was on Johnny Carson show! I was 10, 11?! No no, no no! Jesus is the way! Amen! 🙏🏽 Jimmy Carter was President! God’s will be done, and may prayers be answered and stay answered. We all deserve it! Agape! 🌾💕🌾 The words of her songs are strong and pure, and like she said, this is the black I was born knowing. I thought we were equal! 🟰 Amen. 🙏🏽 ⏰ A little outnumbered, and under-favored! An L. A. cry did what?! Eve?! Dianne Carol, you were always before us! Learning to love ourselves is the because of the greatest love of all! Yes.
What he says at 50:33 onwards is so touching and very inspiring. I wanna use this part whenever I make a video about him. Yes I met Mr. Harry Belafonte in St Jude in Montgomery Alabama, back in 2012.
Wow! Powerful voices! And we miss Gwen so much, too. Great human beings with so much talent!!!
Great tribute for Nick Ashford..🔥🔥 I sampled one of their songs and it’s one of my biggest records. Ms. Valerie you and Mr. Nick Ashford were geniuses for the classic hits you wrote.. 💙👏🏽
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, Dionne! Thank you for EVERYTHING!
😂😂😂😂😂
3 songs in 3 hours...

Wow! It’s good to see Merald “Bubba” Knight. Gladys Knight & The Pips we’re on point! Bubba seemed to be a respectful and kind brother to Gladys. My favorite song from the group is Midnight Train To Georgia. My (late) father is from Georgia, and I am proud to have inherited the Gladys Knight & The Pips 8-Track Tape with Midnight Train To Georgia. It’s my collector’s item. 👩🏽🦱
As great as they are, they are still so unsung! They are two of the greatest writers and performers of all tine!
i know you watched this video mr jameson
R.I.P. to Nick Ashford. Props and continued blessings to Valerie Simpson.
Lovely I just wish they'd sang my favorite Happy Endings ❤😮❤
Thank you so much for posting this and I would also like to thank everyone involved in the recording of it, it really does feel like a labour of love. The interviewer is excellent and informed and the audience seem engrossed by everything that is said. The music is wonderful and each artist interprets Ashford &Simpsons work with great skill, love and respect. I was lucky to see them perform in London many years ago and they were fabulous, Valerie is a fine musician and singer, and Nick Ashford was a great lyricist, as she so wisely said, their body of work will live on a long time after they are gone. Thanks again to everyone involved in this project,I was moved to tears more than once and reminded why we love and respect our musicians so much.

She was in phoenominal shape for her age!!! I would love to meet a lady like her.
I was born on December 25, 2003. Just 5 years on my Christmas Day's birthday in 2008, Eartha Kitt has died at age 81. I'm really sad about her last interview before she passed away. REST IN PEACE AND I LOVE YOU, EARTHA KITT ❤😢😭🙏✝️🌹
They determine how many prisons to make by how many 3rd graders cannot read.
I love Nick and Valerie and I'll Always! ❤
May our pains shape us to be useful tools. Eartha, may your soul find perfect rest in The Lord. One could see someone deeply hurt. Your daughter is beautiful and strong. Good to have this interview before her passing.
Miss Valerie Simpson, true icon, much love Queen! Rest on in power King Nick!!! #SOLID!
What a class act and astute Lady!
What an amazing woman
